Sustainability in Action
The GNS Sustainability Food Garden has been in operation for one full year, and is already yielding great results!
Spearheaded by Mrs. Margaret McCullough, the garden is maintained by the Senior School Round Square group. During the growing season they work in the garden once a week, watering more as necessary.
Though this year's growing season just started, Mrs. McCullough says the crops already look promising. Next year, she plans to expand the garden to include a wider selection of crops, such as vertical growing and native food plants.
The harvested produce will go to local food banks and organizations like the Mustard Seed. Overall, the garden is a great opportunity for the students to learn about sustainability and food security first hand.
It's a perfect undertaking for the Round Square group, and in the future they plan on sharing what they've learned with the Junior students. Over the course of the Beach Drive Campus Transformation, they'll help install a new sustainability garden at the Junior School.
Great work Gryphons!
