Application Process

The Admissions Office is here to help! If you have questions about GNS or the application process, please email us at admissions@mygns.ca.

Applications are accepted in August one year prior to the intended year of entry at GNS and reviewed beginning in October. There is no application deadline—we will continue to accept and review applications throughout the school year as space is available. Note that our main intake years are Grade 6 and Grade 9 with limited spaces able in other grades.

Applications to Grade 12 may be considered under certain circumstances—please contact admissions@mygns.ca prior to starting your application to ensure we are able to accommodate your graduation requirements.

Once the application form and all required documents have been submitted, applicants may be invited to complete an online Academic Assessment, which may include:

  • An assessment of literacy and/or numeracy skills
  • An interview
  • An English-language assessment

If the applicant speaks English as a second language, they may be required to complete an English-language assessment. The applicant can provide an official IELTS, TOEFL, or Duolingo assessment result if the assessment was completed in the last two years.

As part of the admissions process, applicants may be invited to attend a Shadow Day to gain a better understanding of our school’s schedule, expectations and opportunities. You are also welcome to request a Shadow Day for your child.

Our efforts are directed toward creating a balanced class with a range of personalities, learning styles and abilities.

The Admissions Committee, which is comprised of members of the Academic and Admissions teams, will review the whole application and send a decision to the family typically within two weeks after the assessment date:

  • Offer of Admission: the applicant is offered a place at GNS.
  • Wait Pool: the applicant is placed in the wait pool for the grade and will be notified if space becomes available.
  • Not Offered: the applicant is not suited to the school’s program or space is unavailable.

Congratulations! If you have received an offer of admission to GNS, you will need to complete the assigned Tuition and Enrolment Agreement form by the deadline indicated in your offer letter.

Included with this form is a non-refundable registration fee of $5500 CDN.

If you would like to discuss your offer, please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions office.

Thank you for your interest in GNS.

    More Information

    Working with Agents

Please note that GNS does work with a select group of qualified international student recruitment agents to support the application process for families applying to GNS from abroad. If you are approached by a recruitment agency and wish to verify the status of their relationship with GNS, please reach out to our admissions team at admissions@mygns.ca. GNS also has a part-time Chinese parent Liaison Officer who can assist with translation. If you would like to be connected with our Liaison Officer, please let us know.

    English Acquisition

English Acquisition (EA) is a specialized English language course for Grade 8 to 10 students whose first language is not English. Language learners typically develop proficiency in social English quite quickly, but need intensive study to develop sufficient levels of academic English, which has much more complex vocabulary and grammatical structures. The EA course prepares students for academic success. Developing students’ academic English supports progress within all subjects across the curriculum. For students younger than Grade 8, EA availability is determined upon application.

    Headstart

All boarding students are required to attend our Headstart program—a one-week orientation program that takes place the week before classes start in September and which introduces life at Glenlyon Norfolk School to new international students. It offers a comprehensive understanding of the school’s culture, the International Baccalaureate Programme and what to expect as the newest members of our unique and vibrant community.
