Our Spring Break Surf Camp offers a rare opportunity for a small group of teens to experience Canada's best surf town and progress at surfing. Two surf lessons will be taught by qualified surf instructors from Surf Sisters Surf School—Canada's favourite surf school. The first lesson will cover ocean safety, surfing etiquette and technique. The second lesson will introduce how tides, currents and swell affect surf conditions as well as how to paddle out and the theory of catching, riding and manoeuvring on an unbroken wave or "green wave." Transportation, a two-night stay at The Paddler's Inn in the core of Tofino, a yoga class for surfers taught by a local yoga instructor, and food are all included.
Note: No previous surfing experience is necessary, but medium swimming ability is required.
The trip will be led by our own Marine Adventure Guide, Doug Tyrell, who has been leading outdoor adventures for youth and adults for almost 40 years from Ontario, to the BC West coast, to Haida Gwaii to Costa Rica. Our Out of School Program Manager, Emily Harris, will join this trip as she is part of the small female surf community on Vancouver Island and has been a surf instructor in five countries around the world.
