COVID-19 Update #3

A reminder about what the communications process will look like in the event of a COVID-19 exposure at GNS.
As we come to the end of our fourth week back to school, we wanted to remind our community about what protocols will be followed in the event of a COVID-19 exposure within the school.

As outlined in the Return to School Plan, the school will follow the guidance of Island Health regarding all recommendations to contain COVID-19 exposure. Further actions for the school and especially for those in the classroom or otherwise in close contact with the suspected COVID-19 positive person will be dictated by these authorities and will likely include initiatives such as contact tracing, quarantine and/or isolation procedures.

The most important thing to note is that if this occurs, Island Health will be in control of all communication with parents, employees and students.

Any public statements and communications to parents/caregivers and staff containing public health messaging, including references to confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 within the school community, must be reviewed and approved by the Island Health prior to release, and we will follow their guidance when preparing an appropriate communication to our community. We are legally prohibited from disclosing any information beyond what is approved.

In the event of an exposure, GNS will do its best to ensure that staff, students and families who are impacted directly are treated with respect, fairness and compassion with a focus on dignity and the protection of their privacy.

We are proud and impressed with how our community is adjusting to the new protocols and procedures. Please remember our Return to School Feedback Form is still available to submit questions or comments. Your ongoing feedback is invaluable.

Update on the Learning Pavilions (Portables) and Gym Tent

On October 22, we will make a final presentation to the City of Victoria Council to seek approval for the option to move the portable gym tent and up to five of the remaining learning pavilions (portables) from the Beach Drive Campus to the lawn adjacent to Denford Hall. If you have any questions or would be willing to provide support to our application with the City of Victoria, please email Matt Sheridan-Jonah, Director of Advancement.

Reminders
  • Please remember to follow the updated Daily Health Screening Check each day before coming to school.
  • Due to an increase in bike theft in the area, we advise any students and staff that ride bicycles to school to securely lock them to one of the many bike racks on our campuses.
