Learn about Mr. Jordy Moughtin, who joined the GNS Marketing and Communication department in March 2020. He tells us how his first year has been going and more!
Why did you want to be part of the GNS Community?
I grew up about 10 minutes away from the Pemberton Woods Campus, and I always knew that GNS held such a respected and established position in the city. When an opportunity came up to work in a different kind of environment, I had to take it.
How has your first year at GNS been?
It’s been great! I started off in an odd way, though; I only had one day on the job before the school closed down due to the pandemic. Meeting new coworkers and learning about students while working from home was a bit challenging at first. It wasn’t exactly how I planned the first week in a new role, but it’s given me a great story to tell.
Why do you like living and working in Victoria?
I like the weather, the ocean, the forests, the trails, and all the outdoor activities available, as well as being able to ride my bike year round.
What were you doing previous to joining GNS?
Before joining GNS, I spent nine years as a producer and writer in the creative department for CTV Vancouver Island. I was able to shoot, direct, and edit commercials and advertising for clients around the Island. I also wrote and produced radio ads for CFAX 1070 and Virgin Radio.
What is the best thing about your day and why?
Being part of the school community is amazing, and being able to use some of my skills and experience to contribute is very rewarding.
What are some of your interests outside of school?
I’m quite active, so I do a lot of hiking, biking, and exercise of all kinds. I love sports, both playing and being a fan.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
Spicy food and craft beer are two of my favourite things. And I have an orange tabby cat named Kristofferson.
What is it about videography and photography that you enjoy?
I’ve always enjoyed capturing moments and documenting experiences. Looking at the world through a lens, then presenting it in the most engaging way possible is a lot of fun.
What is your favourite movie and why?
Anything with great cinematography; I usually focus on that more than the plot.
