Round Square Jumps Into “Action April”

The Latest Update on Round Square Initiatives
After a restful and enjoyable Spring Break, the Senior School Round Square is busier than ever with multiple initiatives. This term’s initiatives target the environment. From local beach cleanups to recognizing Earth Day 2021, Round Square is focusing on GNS’ part in tackling climate change and pollution.
Mark your calendars for these initiatives!

The bottle drive planned by Round Square will be delayed until May, to allow more time to fundraise. Be expected to bring in your bottles to GNS on May 17. Accepted donations are limited to refundable bottles such as juice boxes and plastic bottles. Funds collected will be going to the World Wildlife Fund.

On April 28, Grade 9s will take a walk to Gonzales Beach for a beach cleanup. During this beach cleanup, participants hope to collect, record and dispose of properly the garbage that litters our beautiful beaches.
Even tiny pieces of plastics such as microplastics that don’t physically entrap an animal can cause significant damage. If you don’t think that a microplastic-laden fish has anything to do with you, it is important to remember that eventually, microplastics move up the food chain, make their way onto our dinner plates and eventually into our digestive system. By cleaning up and collecting the litter on our beaches, GNS Senior School Round Square hopes to do our part by keeping garbage out of our seas.

With Earth Day coming up on April 22, the world needs to start taking action to save the environment as climate change and pollution remain a large threat. Situated in Victoria, GNS is home to an environment teeming with nature, from the pollinators that buzz around the spring bouquets to the soft spoken deer that roam the neighborhoods. Unfortunately, unless we act fast and strive to protect and preserve it, this environment, with its gems and treasures, will all disappear. Do your part to celebrate Earth Day on April 22 by contributing to Round Square Initiatives for “Action April.”
