Honouring the Simpson Family: A Celebration of Legacy

On November 2, we gathered to honour the legacy of the Simpson family and celebrate the official naming of our main building as the Simpson Centre. The event was a resounding success, bringing together over 150 alumni, current and former staff, parents, and friends of GNS.

When Ian Simpson founded Glenlyon Preparatory School in 1932, I doubt he ever imagined the profound impact his school would have on generations of students and families in Victoria and from around the world. Guided by the enduring principles of truth and courage, he laid the groundwork for a thriving institution that continues to inspire.

Two pivotal decisions—the purchase of 1701 Beach Drive in 1935 by Ian and Florence, and the transformation of the school into a charitable foundation in 1970 under Hamish’s guidance—have been instrumental in shaping GNS into the exceptional institution it is today. We are eternally grateful to the Simpson family for their foresight, generosity and unwavering commitment to GNS.

We were honoured to welcome back alumni who expressed their appreciation for the transformative experiences they had at Glenlyon. Their stories highlighted the enduring impact of the Simpson family’s legacy and the strong sense of community that defines our school.

Following the ceremony, guests were invited to tour our newly renovated Junior School. Our students were excited to showcase the modern learning spaces and share their experiences with our alumni and community members.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who attended the event. Your presence made the day truly special. We would also like to thank the dedicated staff who worked tirelessly to organize and execute this memorable occasion.

As we embark on a bold new chapter for GNS, we are committed to building on the strong foundation laid by the Simpson family. We will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do, ensuring that GNS remains a place where students can thrive and reach their full potential while doing their best through truth and courage.
