This summer, Glenlyon Norfolk School is excited to continue its long-standing partnership with Setagaya Gakuen School (SGS) by hosting Japanese students for a unique cultural exchange experience. Since 1986, GNS has welcomed over 4,000 students from SGS, with the homestay program being a highlight of the exchange.
Benefits of Hosting a Japanese Student
- Cultural Exchange and Connection
Hosting a Japanese student offers a chance to learn about Japanese culture, customs, and traditions while sharing your own Canadian way of life. This exchange fosters lasting friendships and bridges between cultures. - Personal Growth
Opening your home to a student helps develop new skills and perspectives, promoting personal growth for both the host family and the student. - Deeper Understanding of Japanese Culture
Gain insights into Japanese society, customs, and daily life. Learn about Japanese food, music, history, politics, pop culture, and more. - Comparative Education Insights
Discover the differences between Canadian and Japanese education systems through the student’s experiences. - Positive Impact
Provide a safe and welcoming environment that can be life-changing for the student, helping them build confidence and independence. - Enjoyable Experience
The hosting experience has been overwhelmingly positive for both SGS students and the GNS community, with many describing it as fun and memorable.
Why Host?
Whether you’re interested in cultural exchange, language practice, personal growth, or making a positive impact, hosting a Japanese student offers a unique opportunity. By opening your home and heart, you contribute to building bridges between cultures and fostering global understanding.
