A longstanding tradition, the GNS Head Prefect election, happened at the beginning of the Spring Term. Following seven exceptional speeches in the Senior School assembly, we are pleased to introduce your Head Prefects for the 2026/2027 school year: Yi Gustin and Charlie Murray!
Yi Gustin
My name is Yi Gustin, and I am honored to be one of your 2026/2027 Head Prefects. Next year will be my fourth year at GNS after moving from California in Grade 9. Over these three years so far, I have had the opportunity to be part of a ton of fun things at GNS, including serving as a grade representative, a student ambassador, a stage manager for theatre productions, and much more.
I’ve wanted to be a Head Prefect since Grade 9, to be a leader and to be accessible to others. From my first year at GNS, I realized how much the Head Prefects set the tone of the school through assemblies, events and the way they show up for the community around them. That has inspired me to take on this responsibility and to continue to create a positive environment for everyone at GNS.
Next year, as Head Prefect, I want to make sure that school life is engaging and enjoyable for all students. I plan to continue improving existing assembly traditions, introduce more student-led events, and host more pop-up activities. I will continue to support the athletics, arts and clubs by helping promote events at GNS.
I’m excited to serve, listen, and work with everyone to make the next year the best it can be.
Charlie Murray
My name is Charlie Murray, and I’ve been at this school since Grade 5. I truly love it here at GNS. I have had the pleasure of challenging myself academically here, especially in the sciences. I am a part of the Gryphon Government, serving as the Green House Captain, where I have thoroughly enjoyed planning school-wide events. I am also involved in athletics here at GNS, participating in tennis, golf, volleyball, basketball and soccer.
Being Head Prefect offers endless opportunities to make a difference within the school. I’m looking forward to listening to students and their ideas on how to make GNS an even more joyful place. I wanted to be Head Prefect because I love organizing and planning, and I believe that being able to speak confidently in front of an audience is a valuable life skill to master.
Next year, I would like to get more students involved in assemblies and large projects to bring everyone together. I have a couple of events that I would like to host, including a sports-oriented house competition featuring activities such as ice cream, music, and more. I would also like to propose more homeform games and challenges to strengthen bonds between students in different grades. Ultimately, I would like to focus on creating more joy and fun wherever possible around the school.
