On November 29, the Middle School Choir braved the cold to perform One Little Candle by Audrey Snyder and Candy Cane Lane by Sia for a magical night on the steps of the BC Parliament Buildings to mark the beginning of the Celebrate the Season Light Up Event.
As our choir teacher, Ms. Kathy Alexander put it, “Singing outside means we are at the mercy of the weather, but luckily, it wasn’t too cold!” The Middle School Choir performed spectacularly in the cold, in front of a really large crowd. “It takes a lot of courage to sing in front of an audience and I was really proud of the choir students,” reflected Ms. Alexander.
Many of the students also enjoyed singing at the Legislature, but they were a bit nervous.
“I was really nervous, but I got over it after a while. It was really fun to sing in front of a lot of people!” shared Lynn Cheevatadavirut ’29 about her experience at the Legislature.
After performing the festive song, the choir watched and participated in lighting up all the lights at the Legislature and the tree. “My favourite part of the light-up was seeing the lights light up the Legislature. It was so beautiful seeing all of the thousands of tiny bulbs light up on the buildings,” Norah Phillips ’29 remarked.
The students then visited the Rattenbury Room in the Legislature and were rewarded with hot chocolate. “It was perfect to thaw our fingers and was super yummy,” stated Jada Baterina ’30.
It was a wonderful experience and many had fun socializing with friends. “It was my favourite part because it was really relaxing to just chill after a scary performance,” Lynn Cheevatadavirut ’29 revealed.
The students and teacher loved performing at the Legislature and would love to continue doing this in the future. “Guess the hot cocoa, the friends, and the lights just draw me in!” said Meenanshi Syal ’29.
Thank you to Ms Alexander for her awesome conducting skills and to Mr Marston for keeping the students safe! Next week on Tuesday, December 11, the Middle School choir is performing as part of the Winter Wonderland Concert being hosted at the UVic Farquhar Auditorium starting at 6:30 p.m..
