Imagine your child standing at the edge of the Salish Sea, not just looking at the waves, but understanding exactly when they’ll retreat to reveal a hidden world of tide pools.
We are thrilled to announce Tides & Trails, a brand-new adventure camp designed specifically for our adventurous intermediate learners (ages 10-12). Based out of our beautiful Beach Drive Campus, this immersive experience invites campers to become young naturalists and leaders. From the sandy flats of Witty’s Lagoon to the forested heights of PKOLS, your child won’t just be exploring Victoria—they’ll be mastering it.
What is Tides & Trails?
Our curriculum balances physical movement with deep, hands-on learning, focusing on three essential growth areas:
- Scientific Discovery: Campers become tide experts, using local tables to calculate the best windows for shore access and studying how erosion shapes our beautiful coast.
- Creative Engineering: Students will design and build non-permanent trail markers to help their peers navigate complex terrain.
- Empowered Leadership: Every camper gets the chance to lead the way. We foster confidence through hike leadership roles and emphasize stewardship through strict “Leave No Trace” standards.
A Week of Exploration
We’ve curated a high-energy schedule that keeps campers moving, all within a 60-minute drive of our campus.
| Day | Adventure Location | Highlights |
| Mon | Local Beach | Tide Prediction 101: Introduction to tide patterns and water prediction. |
| Tue | PKOLS (Mt. Douglas Park) | Leadership & Trail Marking: Gryphons lead the younger Raven Campers through forested paths using custom trail markers. |
| Wed | Witty’s Lagoon | Ecosystems: Identify animal tracks in the salt marshes and visit Sitting Lady Falls. |
| Thu | Cattle Point / Clover Point | Intertidal Discovery: Hands-on exploration of local tide pools. |
| Fri | Local Trail | The Ultimate Low-Tide Challenge: A celebratory hike timed perfectly with the ocean’s retreat. |
More Than Just Hiking
While the scenery is spectacular, the “Core Content” is what sets this camp apart. Campers will use charcoal and paper to capture forest textures through trail rubbings, master navigation with compasses and elevation maps, and participate in a final “Leave No Trace” sweep to ensure we leave our trails better than we found them.
