Ride the Wave: GNS Spring Break Surf Camp Returns for 2025!

Are you ready to trade textbooks for tides and classrooms for waves? This March, Glenlyon Norfolk School is thrilled to offer Senior School students in Grades 10 to 12 an unforgettable experience: the Spring Break Surf Camp! From March 17 to 20, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of Tofino and learn to surf.

Based at the scenic Surf Grove Campground, this four-day adventure promises a unique blend of outdoor exploration and skill-building. Whether you’re a seasoned surfer or a complete beginner, the Surf Camp offers something for everyone. In partnership with the expert instructors at Surf Sister surfing school, you’ll learn the fundamentals of surfing, improve your technique, and gain confidence in the water.

Providing a surfing opportunity is such a great use of a resource that we have on the Island. It’s really cool to expose students to it that have never had the opportunity, or students who have had the opportunity and want to master it a little bit more.

Embrace the Challenge, Embrace the Outdoors

Last year’s Surf Camp was a resounding success, with many students experiencing the thrill of surfing for the first time. Charlotte Quinn ’24, was one of those first-time surfers. “It went really well,” she said. “I like everything that involves the outdoors, so most outdoor opportunities I like to take part in. I’ve tried windsurfing before but never surfing and I’ve always wanted to try it so this seemed like the perfect opportunity.”

The Surf Camp is more than just a chance to learn a new sport. It’s an opportunity to challenge yourself, step outside your comfort zone, and connect with nature. You’ll develop resilience, build camaraderie with your fellow students, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
