• Visual Arts

  In Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten, art is embedded in the learning environment and provides creative and play-based ways for students to explore and express themselves. In Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2, students receive 70 minutes of art class once a week for one term, and in Grades 3 to 5, students receive 70 minutes of art class once a week throughout the school year.
  
  Our visual arts program emphasizes the active exploration of art media and techniques and the knowledge of elements and principles, as well as art appreciation. Students create, discuss and reflect on their work and the work of others to develop an understanding of themselves, art forms and the world around them. In addition to a wide range of art-themed projects, specific projects are designed to support the units of inquiry and foster the attributes of the learner profile.
  
  Each student’s artwork is stored in a personal portfolio and remains in the art room throughout the year; this provides opportunities for students to reflect on their skill development and allows for selections of work for school and public display.

• Music

  All students at the Junior School receive music instruction and, where appropriate, music connects through the units of inquiry.
  
  

  Junior Kindergarten to Grade 1	Experience and enjoy music; students sing, play musical games, play instruments, and listen and move to music.
  Grades 2 and 3	Participate in the Primary Choir one period a week.
  Grades 4 and 5	Participate in the Intermediate Choir one period a week.
  Grades 2 to 5	Begin to read and write melodic and rhythmic patterns and create their own music.
