By Sarah McLeod It was a busy first week in the Beach Drive Learning Commons! The students enjoyed sharing their summer reading highlights with each other and taking out many of the new titles. Our younger readers learned how to use the shelf markers and our older readers were reminded how to access our online database collection through an app on their iPads and through the Blackbaud resources tab Learning Commons page. I have been asked how many books students may take out, and my answer is always the same: as many as they can carry! Our library collection is a “book buffet,” and I look forward to having our students read lots of varied stories. I always offer guidance while they choose titles and hope to find them just the right book. Sometimes they have a set title in mind, and as it’s their choice it may not necessarily be a “right fit” book. Of course, these often come back fairly quickly as students realize there are so many “just right” books for them! I have also been asked if we take donations, and yes we do! Even if we don’t need the books, often a different classroom can use them or we can take them to Russell Books for a used book credit. We also have a pink donation bin, and are collecting donations for 1000 x 5, an organization that supports local children who need books. Please come visit as our Learning Commons if you have any questions or would like to help shelve books. As our students are big readers there are always a lot of books to shelve!
