Every student at GNS is an IB learner. Every teacher at GNS is an IB educator.
Building on a foundation of over 30 years of training and experience, our teachers have made a strong commitment to delivering the International Baccalaureate (IB) curricula as they believe it equips our students with the higher-level skills of inquiry, analysis and innovation, which will help them have a positive effect on the world around them.
We pride ourselves on delivering programs that teach students how to learn, not just what to learn. Over time, our students develop a deeper understanding of their own learning styles and how to define, and achieve, their own version of success. They also become critical and creative thinkers who can apply the knowledge and skills they have developed to real-world situations.
GNS is authorized to offer three IB programmes:
Within the framework of the IB, our PYP and MYP teachers follow the prescribed British Columbia curriculum using an approach to teaching that engages the learner and emphasises the acquisition of learning skills.
The DP is an internationally standardized, enriched Grade 11 and 12 curriculum that includes first-year university concepts and material. Because we support students to create personal pathways to graduation, in Grades 11 and 12 they can choose to:
The IB Learner Profile places the student at the centre of their learning and aims to develop internationally minded people, who strive to be: inquiring, knowledgeable, thinking, communicative, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-taking, balanced, reflective and persevering.
On their journey from the Primary Years Programme to the Middle Years Programme to the Diploma Programme, the IB Approaches to Learning framework helps students develop competencies for research, critical and creative thinking, collaboration, communication and self-management.
Overall, the IB programmes at GNS nurture in students a commitment to learning as a life-long process, challenging them to take thoughtful action with their newly-acquired knowledge and skills.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a globally recognized curriculum that will encourage your child to take ownership of their learning and develop critical thinking skills. Students in Grades 11 and 12 can choose to pursue the full Diploma, or take a mixture of Diploma and/or Provincial courses.
