It is the oldest field hockey tournament in North America. The silver cup donated by Montague Bridgman, was a trophy to be played for annually among the few teams existing in Victoria and Duncan; this was expanded to Vancouver, with as many as 20 teams as the popularity of the tournament grew.

Glenlyon Norfolk School (Norfolk House) was one of the founding teams of this prestigious BC tournament but the school had to wait until 1950 before its name was engraved on the trophy. In a round robin contest, the team tied on points with Victoria High School.

Members of this 1950 team were: Pricilla Forsander, Marion Patterson, Lorna Chisholm, Sally Simpson, Jo Ellis, Donna Burridge, Monica Fraser, Gillian Scott-Moncrief, Elizabeth Williams, Gwynne Roberts and Carrol Butler

It was 1958 when the school won the cup outright. Played at Oak Bay on November 15, 10 teams entered. Finalists were Queen Margaret’s School and Norfolk House. The latter’s score of 2-0 put their names on the trophy for the second time, the first as sole winners.

Team members were: Lisa Husband, Ann Cheetham, Sue Mitchell, Alex Henderson, Lynne Edwards, Mrs. Beaudreau, Barbara Emery, Jean Alexander, Sue Mearns, Nana Fibiger, Anne McDougal and Nancy Nicholson.
