Pumpkin Patch Tradition Brought to Kindergarten Class

The annual Fall tradition of our Kindergarten classes visiting the pumpkin patch couldn’t happen this year, but with the help of one of our GNS families, the pumpkin patch came to the Junior School. As keen detectives at Nature School, students have been using their senses and observation skills to identify signs of Fall, especially during their weekly outdoor outings.  In class, the students have grown knowledgeable about the Fall season by exploring non-fiction texts, investigating the life cycle of pumpkins and experimenting on pumpkins, including finding out if they sink or float. Going to the pumpkin patch, usually as a Nature School outing, is the culmination of their Fall education, including visiting the seasonal crops and harvest at a local farm.  With this year’s Junior School theme of “Stronger Together,” Ms. Sullivan reached out to a GNS family to help carry on the pumpkin patch tradition in a new way. Justine and Dan Ludwig, family members of current parent Andrea Hodgson, donated all of the pumpkins from their farm, Coastal Black. While they may not be able to travel to the pumpkin patch this year, with the help and support of these community members, the patch is coming to Kindergarten students.
