The Senior School Student Activity Council (SAC) planned various activities last week to help their fellow students destress. The SAC had a special surprise for Grade 9 to 12 students each day over the course of the week: bubble wrap and stickers in the Learning Commons, a free tea day, chalk positivity messages, and a games day on the turf.

“We noticed it’s a pretty stressful time for a lot of students between report cards and wrapping up the Winter Term before we go on Spring Break. So we put together a destress week and got each of the members at SAC to do one day,” explained Sophie Van Cuylenborg, SAC Prefect.

The SAC hoped that the various activities available throughout the week allowed students to relax.

“I think it’s something that can benefit all of the student body, especially because we have members from Grade 9 to 12, so it’s nice when we can do an activity. Especially now that we are all in cohorts, but we can do this for the whole school,” said Sophie.

There are 20 students involved in the SAC in Grades 9 to 12. This year, because of COVID-19 restrictions, they have had to adapt and think of new ways to organize activities for students. They have been successful with multiple initiatives including a movie night, a costume contest, and a photo booth leading up to Halloween. They’ve also been able to do holiday candy grams, Valentine’s Day mathematics and more.

“We have had to get more creative,” said Sophie. “There have been a lot of great ideas and traditions SAC has had over the years, but some we haven’t been able to do. We have had to come up with creative solutions, but I’m pretty lucky there are 20 people in the SAC so lot’s of ideas and people willing to try new things.”

Way to go Senior School SAC for putting on a wonderful destressing week for the students!
