Why We Love Ms. Easton

Who has the ability to make a class of science and math geeks look forward to I&S? Who also has the power to turn introverts into debaters who never cease to talk? It is none other than the brilliant Ms. Elspeth Easton! A GNS alum, Ms. Easton returned to GNS to pass on her amazing knowledge to future generations of GNS students, turning down offers from some of the most prestigious law schools just to come back and teach us!

Her students describe her as kind, fun, caring and the best teacher they’ve ever had, the very embodiment of the GNS values, and the most amazing role model. When asked what they think made Ms. Easton the best teacher ever, her students had lot to say!

“In my time with Ms. Easton from Grade 8 to now she has been the best teacher I’ve had in a long time,” said Harry Xu ’24 “I appreciate everything she has done for me.”

Charlotte Quin ’24 responded, saying, “Ms. Easton always gives us our best chance at everything, while still keeping high expectations. She pushes us to be the best version of ourselves!”

“She is a marvelous teacher, but she’s also a friend and family,” shared Caitlin Chen ’24 “Although she always says that we stress her out, we know that she loves us, and we love her too!”

Kimi De Gea ’24, as well as the entire class, will be forever grateful for Ms. Easton’s act of kindness with her In-Class Write.

“She works so incredibly hard to make sure that our time at school is as fun, interesting, and low-stress as possible. She even stayed up all night writing our report cards just to buy us more time for our in-class assignment,” she said.

Along with designing enriching classes chock-full of knowledge, Ms. Easton also holds the funnest classes.

“I can speak on behalf of the entire class in that we look forward to every single I&S class with Ms. Easton. We have shared so so so many laughs and memorable times (I’m still expecting my Dunkirk x Pizza t-shirt for grad by the way),” says Kimi.

We watch movies (only educational cold war/spy movies!) as well as play games, such as the fishing Gimkit. While trying to answer questions about the Cold War, we had fun chasing Ms. Easton’s little mushroom around the screen.

Kate Flye ’24, Jeopardy Guessing Champion, talks a little about the unit-end Jeopardies.

“Ms. Easton always makes sure that we are having as much fun as possible while secretly making it related to a topic we are learning about. My personal favorite is at the end of our units when we get to play Jeopardy (which Ms. Easton makes up herself),” she said.

On behalf of the entire class, thank you Ms. Easton (P.S. I’m sorry I lied when I said I would write an article promoting debate, which is held after school every Wednesday! We wanted to surprise you!) We hope that you know how much we appreciate you and that we all hope you have a very restful and enjoyable Spring Break!
