From May 31 to June 2, the GNS Rowing Team will take part in the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Championships in St. Catherines, Ontario. Team Captain Sally says she feels prepared for the regatta. “It’s the same course as the Henley Regatta, which we went to last year,” Sally says. “That was really fun.” At the CSSRAs Sally will row single, with Ronen and Jack both rowing single and double. To prepare for the regatta, the GNS team has been doing extra training sessions every week, working hard under the expert eyes of coaches Rene Gonin and Jen Wallinga – both former Olympians. In the fall, they participated in an intensive development program through Vic City Rowing. “It’s really fun to line up against others from around the country and see the results of our training pay off,” Sally says. This is the first time the team will be competing in the Under 19 category, and the first they will officially be representing GNS at a regatta–they’ve even made their own Gryphon unitards! We wish them the best of luck at the CSSRAs next week. Go Gryphons!
