Earlier this month, Ethan Chan was recognized for his amazing contribution to biomedical research. After much tough competition, he took home the top prize at the National Sanofi Biogenius Competition in Toronto. For his project, he designed a device that monitors and records kidney disease data less invasively than those currently on the market. “It was a really great time talking with the other competitors and seeing how motivated they were in their research,” says Ethan. “I was very surprised and happy to have won, as the caliber of all the projects there was very high.” After the National Biogenius Competition, Ethan took his project to Fredericton, New Brunswick, for the Canada-wide science fair, where he earned the Engineering and Innovation award, the Ted Rogers Scholarship, and a silver medal. This weekend, he’s taking his project to the final stage of the Biogenius Competition at the BIO International Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. “I am mainly looking forward to meeting all the other competitors, but also presenting my research and work to a large audience at the convention.” Congratulations, Ethan, and good luck!
