By Damon Henry An intrepid group of Grade 7 students recently participated in an overnight voyageur canoeing expedition to Discovery Island. This was the first time this trip was offered for this age group, and represents another opportunity in our growing Middle School Outdoor Education program. The group of 15 students gathered at the Beach campus on Wednesday, May 22 to prepare the boats and gear for the trip and to meet their guides. They then did some paddle training, and even practised a capsize and rescue! The group set out on Thursday morning and paddled in beautiful, calm conditions. After a lunch stop on the west side of Discovery Island, they continued around to the park, where they set up camp. Thanks to the beautiful weather, the students had time to relax on the beach and explore the island. In the morning, the group set out again and did good work paddling in some tricky currents. Well done to this group of young students who worked very well together, had a ton of fun and continued to develop their outdoor skills!
