By Graeme Campbell Students in Grade 6 French had the opportunity to dig a little deeper into their “family roots” through old photos and new technology. Students utilized Google Drawings to easily create and edit a family tree of their immediate family (and furry friends). Students were able to take scanned or digital photos from a variety of sources and create a tree, along with annotations, about each person. They then presented these family trees to their classmates, all the while practicing the vocabulary surrounding family connections, present tense, favourite activities and physical descriptions. Students enjoyed the experience and found the visual connection to their relatives to be helpful in learning a variety of important French words.
