Congratulations to Neeve Unger ’25 for making the U16 Women’s Junior National Field Hockey Team. From May 26 to 29, Neeve will participate in the highly anticipated Den Bosch International Tournament in the Netherlands.

Neeve will demonstrate her skills on the global stage and represent her country as she competes against top clubs from around the world.

“In August I found out I made the U16 Women’s NextGen program, which is how I got selected for the national team,” she explained. “It’s good to be picked. It’s stressful, but it will be a fun time.”

The Den Bosch International Tournament is held annually and invites youth teams from all over the world to compete. Along with field hockey, the tournament includes basketball, ice hockey, rugby and football.

To make the U16 Women’s Junior Team, Neeve had to be part of the BC provincial team, and which she did when she competed at the 2022 National Champions and received the Tournament 11 award.

She started playing field hockey when she was six years old and was influenced by her sister, who also played on the provincial team.

“I have a lot of friends in field hockey, also my sister and her friends, so that’s my favourite thing about it,” she said. “Also, the sport is just fun.”

Since joining GNS in Grade 9, Neeve has also been part of the school’s field hockey squad. Neeve is hoping that when she attends a post-secondary university, she will be playing field hockey, and she also aspires to play for the U21 team and the Canadian Women’s National Team.

Way to go, Neeve, and good luck with the U16 Women’s Junior National Field Hockey tournament.
