Congratulations to Kristin Daniel-Park ’31 who was announced as one of the winners of the recent Bolen Books Bookmark Design Contest! While the contest had only two winners in past years, a whopping 12 winners were chosen this year, with ages ranging from five years old to adult, and Kristin was one of them.

“It was really amazing and I was really surprised when I found out I won,” said Kristin. “When I saw the final printed bookmark it looked really nice.”

Bolen Books is a locally owned bookstore operating out of the Hillside Shopping Centre, and Kristen’s design will be printed by the store on a limited edition bookmark which will be available this summer. Her bookmark features a variety of cats which she drew with the caption, “Snuggle up with a good book!”

“I put cats on it because I really like cats; they are my favourite animal,” she explained. “I did a cat bookmark in the past and a lot of people liked it. My dad gave me the idea to put cats on it again, as I was originally going to do a feather bookmark, but I changed it to a cat and did different personalities for the cats.”

The bookmark also includes an artist bio, which reads:

“Introducing 9-year-old Kristin, affectionately known as ‘Coco,’ a talented young artist with a diverse range of interests. Coco’s passion for archery, drawing, violin, and piano reveals her dynamic spirit and dedication to the arts. Inspired by enchanting tales like ‘The Girl Who Drank From the Moon,’ ‘The Mysterious Benedict Society,’ and the hilarious works of Favid Williams, Coco’s imagination knows no bounds. With her unwavering love for feline companions, Coco’s artistic journey is sure to be accompanied by the charm and playfulness that cats bring to her world.”

Great job Kristin—we can’t wait to get a bookmark!
