Hygiene Initiative “Sweetly” Extended

Many students would agree that candy sales are the best and most inclusive part of a fundraiser. That is why the Round Square has decided to extend the Candy Sales, in support of the Hygiene Initiative, until May 6.

The initiative focuses on providing personal care and hygiene products to those who cannot afford them for themselves. Personal hygiene is important to maintaining healthy habits as well as boosting one’s mental health. Without proper personal hygiene habits, there is a higher risk of contracting illnesses as the body becomes the ideal environment for bacteria and viruses.

In addition to candy bags and freezies, there are bins in each homeform to collect personal hygiene donations. All donations will be going to Our Place, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping those most in need in Greater Victoria.

The first Round Square Candy Sale was so successful that many students were turned away as the candy was sold out! Luckily, Round Square decided to host another Candy Sale this week. With the second Candy Sale, Round Square members successfully raised $150! Next week, instead of selling candy, Round Square will be selling Freezies! Don’t forget your loonies and toonies!

So far, many hygiene donations have been appearing in bins throughout the Middle School. The Grade 6s and 7s appear to be beating the Grade 8s in the number of donations. Way to go Grade 6s and 7s!
