How long have you been at GNS?

I started at GNS in September 2019, so just over two-and-a-half years now. I moved to Victoria from Ottawa, Ontario in the summer of 2019 and after visiting the campus I knew this was where I wanted to work!

What made you want to be part of the GNS community?

I started as an Educational Assistant on a one year contract at the Junior School and I learned very quickly what an amazing community this was. The faculty and staff were caring and welcoming. The quality of education was impressive. The ocean views certainly don’t hurt. I’m very happy to be a part of the GNS family.

Why did you want to be the Admissions & Boarding Coordinator?

I wanted to take my past experience working in mental health/residential youth care and incorporate it in supporting international students at GNS. I enjoy how my role allows me to build new relationships with GNS community members and our international community members.

What makes Family Boarding an interesting program?

The Family Boarding Program is an amazing opportunity for international students to access our extensive school curriculum and programs, in an atmosphere that is a “home away from home.” We have students come from all over the world to access this program and it’s an amazing way for our GNS community members to build long-lasting relationships with these students.

What are some of your interests outside of school?

I love being active and exploring Vancouver Island. I enjoy paddle boarding, camping, hiking and swimming—although swimming in the ocean is a work in progress since it’s a bit chilly. I like to try new things—right now it’s golfing and boxing, both of which are done quite poorly but with lots of laughs.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I converted my vehicle into a camper and drove across Canada for four months before settling in Victoria. It was amazing and so beautiful to see the country this way. My favourite part of this trip was waking up every day in a new spot with beautiful views of mountains, waterfalls or the ocean.

I was also quite active in the hockey community—having played in University and spending a few years coaching girls hockey.

What do you like about living and working in Victoria?

I love the mild weather (and the minimal amounts of snow there is in the winter). I enjoy how close in proximity we are to the hiking trails, forests, mountains and of course the ocean.
