The Middle School Social Justice Club has been busy making posters about gender identity and expression. The students chose to create these because they wanted to do something to educate the greater GNS community. “GNS works to be an inclusive space for everyone, and students recognize that if people don’t have the information then it makes them harder to be inclusive,” said Ms. Kathleen Mullaney. “The students identified that there was a bit of a gap in knowledge and for us to do our best to be inclusive then we need to make sure everyone is on the same page in terms of education.” The themes of the posters include gender identity, gender expression, sexuality, pronouns and inclusive language. “Right now I’m working on one that has famous transgender and non-binary people, and others are working on posters that include how to use pronouns, inclusive language, and things like that,” said Zoe Carroll ’25 For Iris Thompson-Chang ’25 she said these types of topics are important and that she has been able to learn a lot herself. “There was a lot I didn’t know, and I’m really glad for the club because I want to keep learning,” Iris said. Ms. Mullaney says it was the student’s idea to start the club and they have been taking an active lead on coming up with a list of things that are a priority to talk and learn about. “It’s been amazing to see them take on this leadership role and watch them decide what they are going to do about it and how they are going to share it with the GNS community,” she said. Keep an eye out around the school for the posters!
