Saying Goodbye to Longtime GNS Employee

Friday, October 8 was retirement day for longtime GNS Facilities Manager Robin Bennett. A well known face throughout the GNS community, Robin worked at the school for nearly three decades.

“I was hired to install a playground down at the Beach Drive Campus,” he explained, “Then they needed some trophy cases, so I started building trophy cases. And then they needed landscaping, so I started doing landscaping. I was only hired for three months, but I did too much and stayed for 29 years!”

With Robin’s guidance, a simple send-off was planned for his last day, with pizza ordered for lunch for faculty and staff. Additionally, each employee was invited to take home a ‘Bennett Brew’ beer to enjoy later in the day. Bottles of Blue Buck from Phillips Brewery and Dark Matter by Hoyne Brewing Company were re-labeled for the occasion.

When asked what he’ll miss the most about his time at the school, his answer spoke volumes about his character. “It may sound corny, but helping everybody. That’s what’s kept me here, just the joy of helping everybody, the smiles on everybody’s face.”

Robin was also given a gift card to Golf Town, and his immediate retirement plans include time for himself.

“Golfing, woodworking, taking care of the house. I take care of other buildings but I always seem to neglect my own!” he remarked as he laughed.

Congratulations, Robin! Thank you for all your contributions to GNS!
