Recently, seven Junior School teachers attended an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) Conference in Vancouver offered through the British Columbia Association of IB World Schools (BCAIBWS).

Teachers Isabelle Tang, Sarah McLeod and Kelly White attended The Role of Science and Socials in the PYP, while teachers Ino Stavropoulou, Kathleen Stamp-Vincent, Leanne Giommi and Meghan Filgate attended the Role of Language in the PYP.

Knee-deep in IB Learner Profiles, Key Concepts, ATL’s and IB lingo, they thoroughly enjoyed their learning.

They had the opportunity to look closely and further their knowledge and understanding of the role of science and socials and the role of language in the PYP Principles into Practice. They dove into their own teaching practice, analyzed Units of Inquiry and met with educators from other schools to solidify their learning. They were able to be true inquirers!

It was a resounding success and a wonderful opportunity for these educators to gain knowledge, collaborate and connect not only with each other but with experts and fellow educators within the IB PYP network.

Regarding her experience, Mrs. McLeod shared “I am so grateful to have this opportunity to learn from Katie Poulsen, an expert in the field. Poulsen thoroughly explored the transdisciplinary framework of the PYP and gave a plethora of examples discovering the interrelationships between science and social studies concepts. She also shared many resources using this understanding to use with students to gain an understanding and take action on globally-significant issues.”
