Unlocking Technology Fundamentals with the Hour of Code

Technology, Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Junior School students exploring coding

At GNS, we are proud to participate in the annual Hour of Code Week. This inclusive initiative spans multiple grades, across both school campuses. We aim to provide students with opportunities to explore the world of coding and computational thinking through a diverse array of engaging activities, available both online and offline.

The Hour of Code Week is a global movement to introduce students to the fundamentals of coding and computational thinking, fueling a passion for technology and innovation. At GNS, we believe in the importance of providing our students with essential digital skills and recognize their significance for future success in an ever-evolving technological landscape.

The Hour of Code Week offers a great opportunity for our students to practice crucial skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity. These skills are not only foundational to coding but also extend to a deeper understanding of the technology we use in our daily lives.

Throughout the week, students explored coding through grade-level-tailored lessons and activities, such as learning about AI through an interactive Minecraft experience in Grade 4, learning about sequences and algorithms through hands-on BeeBot robotics in Grade 1, and programming step counters to track physical activity within Middle School Design classes. These hands-on experiences introduced computational thinking concepts and underscored the real-world applications of these skills. From fundamental algorithmic thinking to intricate coding challenges, students were encouraged to think critically and to collaborate to solve problems.
