Teaching Intern – Learning Strategies

Middle/Senior School, FTE 1.0
One year term: September 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018

GNS has an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate and BC certified teacher. If you’re a creative and passionate educator looking for an opportunity to support our students on their journey to becoming well-rounded adults, we are currently seeking applicants for a full-time position commencing September 1, 2017.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • work collaboratively with the Learning Strategies team to effectively support student learning
  • work directly with assigned students to offer relevant and effective learning support
  • support student’s academic, co-curricular, and personal growth
  • make an active contribution to our extensive co-curricular programs, and participate fully in the culture of our independent school community.

Qualifications:

  • A valid BC teaching certificate (as of September 2017)
  • An interest in special education is essential

Junior Kindergarten Assistant (full-time)

Regular, Full-time

The ideal candidate will hold at minimum, an ECA certification; have Montessori training and knowledge of current educational trends in a Junior Kindergarten setting. Experience and/or interest in weekly Nature School and knowledge of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme would be considered an asset.

Annual Appeal Manager

Regular, full-time
Start: July 2017

The Manager of the Annual Appeal is responsible for the implementation, delivery and management of a comprehensive annual giving program, including the coordination and oversight of supporting initiatives in the areas of donor services and donor relations. This role fosters the growth of best practices in communication and solicitation strategies to develop and sustain a long-term philanthropic giving program for the school.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future for our students, and a role that will allow your fundraising skills to shine. The successful candidate must be a passionate ambassador and exemplify a caring, can-do attitude in support of GNS’s mission and values.

Preferred Qualifications: Three-years experience in fundraising, donor solicitation and/or sales; experience with event planning and volunteer management, an asset. You will have an exceptional interpersonal style and a strong aptitude for nurturing positive community relationships.

Job Description

After School Care Manager

Hourly, ongoing contract
August to August

The After School Care (ASC) Manager is responsible for the overall management and organization of the After School Care program which operates from 3:20 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. when school is in session. GNS also runs full-day camps on Pro-D days and select dates during the mid-term, winter, spring and summer break periods as part of this program.

The ASC Manager will offer a fun and vibrant program in compliance with licensing standards of the Vancouver Island Health Authority and BC’s Childcare and Community Care Act. The successful candidate is responsible for all aspects of the program, including staff management, and will be a strong communicator with an aptitude for building engaging and positive relationships with students, families and staff. You will place a high value on providing exceptional service and exemplify a caring, cando attitude in support of GNS’s mission and values.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with elementary aged children and a first aid certificate is required. Involvement in camp/program leadership and/or ECEA/ECE certification would be considered a strong asset.

Teaching Assistant, Junior School

  • support student learning with numeracy and literacy foundation skills under the direction of teachers
  • assist teachers in preparing classroom materials
  • perform supervision and chaperoning duties

Academic Advisor

Regular, full-time position

The Academic Advisor is responsible for counselling Grades 11 and 12 students as they consider their post-secondary future. This position will provide exceptional service to both students and parents to help navigate the world of university admissions, providing the guidance and support to help our students gain acceptance into the university of their choice.

The successful candidate will make an active contribution to our extensive co-curricular programs, and participate fully in the culture of our independent school community.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education and valid B.C. teaching certificate
  • Five years of academic advising experience is preferred, however a combination of relevant training and experience may be considered
  • US and International application experience
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) experience or knowledge of IB Middle Years (MYP) and/or Diploma Programmes (DP), an asset
  • Experience working with international students and complex educational backgrounds
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to establish strong connections with students, parents, colleagues, university reps and industry contacts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be highly collegial and a collaborative team player
  • Highly reflective and committed to continuous professional growth and improvement

Learning Strategies Teacher, Middle/Senior School

  • monitor and support student’s academic, co-curricular, and personal growth
  • nurture each child to discover their own talents, sense of purpose, sense of self and inner strength
  • make an active contribution to our extensive co-curricular programs, and participate fully in the culture of our independent school community.

Qualifications:

  • A valid BC teaching certificate
  • Three (3) years teaching experience at a middle and/or senior school level
  • Experience as a Learning Assistance/Resource Teacher and Special Education training preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with teachers to provide appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of students
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of an IEP in consultation with teachers, parents, students, and appropriate resource personnel
  • Must be highly collegial and a collaborative team player
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to establish connections with students, parents and colleagues
  • A strong aptitude in differentiated learning styles and a passion for educating the whole student
  • Demonstrated passion for innovation and creativity in education
