Director, Capital Campaigns

Regular, full-time position

GNS is seeking a Director, Capital Campaigns, responsible for the overall development and management of GNS’s major gifts program. The Director will provide strategic direction to ensure the successful execution of the school’s Campus Transformation Campaign.

Reporting to the Deputy Head, this position provides consultative expertise to maximize philanthropic support from the GNS community, including the management of a personal portfolio of relationships to secure major gifts.

The Director will be an accomplished fundraiser with experience in the strategic planning and execution of a capital campaign. As an essential member of the team, the Director is an excellent collaborator committed to supporting and organizing a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers in realizing the capital fundraising goals of GNS. You will have a strong administrative skillset, and be a valued coach and facilitator with the ability to bring out the best in others by recognizing their strengths and deliberately fostering growth.

IB MYP Coordinator

Regular, full-time position
(with a teaching component - TBD)

The IB MYP Coordinator leads the Middle Years Programme at Glenlyon Norfolk School and has responsibility for the oversight and coordination of the delivery of curriculum (Grades 6-10), ensuring it satisfies the requirements of the BC Ministry of Education and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). This position is a member of the Academic Council, working closely with Department Heads and reports to the Middle and Senior School Principals.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Ensure continuity from PYP through to the completion of MYP and beyond
  • Collaboratively plan and deliver International Baccalaureate (IB) Units that incorporate the BC curriculum
  • Provide resources, information and lead discussion about innovative and exemplary curriculum practice
  • Contribute to all levels of MYP professional development and, where appropriate, plan and lead activities for faculty and staff
  • Be a member of the Middle and Senior School Leadership teams
  • Make an active contribution to our extensive co-curricular programs, and participate fully in the culture of our independent school community

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, recognized teacher status and eligible for a BC teaching certificate
  • Three to five years of IB MYP leadership and teaching experience
  • Experience implementing principles and current trends in education, curriculum and IB MYP
  • Demonstrated success in conducting training sessions and leading staff toward instructional improvement

Academic Advisor

Regular, full-time position

The Academic Advisor is responsible for counselling Grades 11 and 12 students as they consider their post-secondary future. This position will provide exceptional service to both students and parents to help navigate the world of university admissions, providing the guidance and support to help our students gain acceptance into the university of their choice.

The successful candidate will make an active contribution to our extensive co-curricular programs, and participate fully in the culture of our independent school community.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education and valid BC teaching certificate
  • Five years of academic advising experience preferred
  • US and International application experience
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) experience or knowledge of IB Middle Years (MYP) and/or Diploma Programmes (DP), an asset
  • Experience working with international students and complex educational backgrounds

Custodian

Regular, Full-time
Monday-Friday 3:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Location: TBD (Oak Bay/Victoria)

The Custodian is responsible for performing cleaning and sanitation duties in all common areas, rooms and buildings on the school’s campus. The Custodian adheres to high standards of cleanliness and contributes to the upkeep and preservation of a pristine school environment.

The successful applicant will demonstrate high energy, initiative and drive to enhance custodial operations. You will have a cheerful, positive disposition and outstanding communication skills to contribute to a respectful and team focused environment.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma supplemented by courses related to janitorial, floor cleaning/care and safe use of cleaning products
  • Minimum two years janitorial experience preferably in a school environment or commercial setting
  • Experience with floor care and maintenance, an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with students, teachers, parents and staff
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high work standards
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and complete tasks in a timely fashion while balancing a heavy workload

Family Boarding Coordinator

Temporary, full-time
Mat leave cover: May 2017 – June 2018

The Family Boarding Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the overall success of the family boarding program within the GNS community. The successful candidate will build and maintain engaging and positive relationships with students, host families and school personnel. You will place a high value on providing exceptional service and exemplify a caring, can-do attitude in support of GNS’s mission and values. This position requires sound and reliable judgment as all decisions affect students, hosts and ultimately GNS’s agent relationships and reputation both locally and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years working in a cross-cultural environment with community agencies or in an educational setting is preferred and experience with boarding/homestay placements would be an asset. You will have exceptional interpersonal skills to deal with staff, students, teachers and parents with a strong aptitude for nurturing positive community relationships. A good understanding of other cultures and customs is necessary and a strong aptitude for handling sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.

This position requires some flexibility to be available evenings and weekends on occasion and access to own vehicle is required.

The Executive Assistant is responsible for all aspects of the Junior School office including reception and administrative support to the Principal, faculty and staff. This position provides exceptional service and exemplifies a caring, can-do attitude in support of GNS’s mission and values. Demonstrating initiative and pride in performance, the Executive Assistant contributes positively to a respectful and productive work environment, and facilitates strong professional relationships within the GNS community.

Qualifications:

  • Five years of office administration experience, preferably in a school environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to deal with staff, students, teachers and parents with a strong aptitude for nurturing positive community relationships
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high degree of initiative
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively in the face of regular interruptions
  • A high level of integrity and proven ability to maintain a strict level of confidentiality
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
