Due to some errors in communication on our part during site preparation, as well as discrepancies in the assembly plans for these modular structures, the completed spaces both exceeded the height allowances under the current Development Variance Permit—one by 7 inches and one by 15 inches. While the City building inspectors have confirmed that both structures are compliant with the Building Code and are safe to occupy, this issue delayed our ability to obtain occupancy permits. As such, we requested an update to the original variance to bring the structures into compliance so that the appropriate permits can be obtained. The structures were installed to help GNS address space constraints presented as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. They have been highly utilized since their completion for both physical exercise and flexible classroom spacing. Signs regarding this public hearing will be installed on the Pemberton Woods Campus on Monday, February 28. If you have any questions about this process, please contact Kamal Pohar, Director of Facilities (kpohar@mygns.ca).
