Congratulations to the Beach Bee Club who received second place for the People’s Choice Award at the BC Children’s Hospital Festival of Trees. The tree, which was located at the Bay Centre from November 21 to January 6, was decorated with care and glee by 12 Junior School students.

Students were surprised at the January 17 Friday Morning Live assembly when a representative from BC Children’s Hospital Foundation presented the school with their award.

Leading up to the Festival of Trees the Beach Bee Club made various ornaments which included felted bees and flowers, jute beehives, honeycomb and embossed foil. However, it wasn’t just the club that did the work. Every student in the Junior School was involved in some way or another, building on the Junior School’s focus on community. The Beach Bee Club continues all their hard work with their next project, which includes making handmade Valentines Day cards. The cards include a felted heart and a pin you can take off and put on yourself. The cards are $3 each and you can order them before February 7 by emailing swallace@mygns.ca. The proceeds go towards the Beach Bee Club which raises awareness of bees and other pollinators in our environment. The club takes care of two beehives located on Shady Lane and they also plant and maintain a garden at the Beach Campus that helps attract pollinators.
