It’s been a good year for rowing at GNS. During the fall season, the GNS rowing teams competed with teams from all over the city, earning four first place titles and the top award for overall efficiency at the City Championship Regatta. And, through a partnership with the Victoria City Rowing Team, GNS students have continued rowing year round. Their hard work has paid off, and this weekend four GNS students have been selected to try out for spots at the BC Summer Games. This achievement is even more significant given the small size of the rowing program at GNS. Best of luck to Sally Jones, Leo Prosalendis, Jack DesBrisay, and Ronen Somogyi, who will compete in the Zone 6 selection event at Elk Lake on June 10! If you’ve ever been curious about what rowing at GNS has to offer, don’t miss GNS Rowing Day on Monday, June 18! During this free, daylong event, GNS students in Grades 7 to 11 will have a chance to try their hands at rowing for the first time. They’ll take the bus up to Elk Lake, where members of the school rowing team will show their fellow students the facilities used by GNS as well as the Victoria City Rowing Club, UVIC and our very own Canadian National rowing team. The students will get a chance to row on the ergometer and on the lake. To sign up or for more information, contact Duncan Brice at dbrice@mygns.ca.
