By Pat Giommi Students from Grade 6 through Grade 11 participated in a range of mathematics contests this week. Students in the Middle School wrote the Canadian National Mathematics League contests, whereas Senior School students—depending on grade—wrote the University of Waterloo Pascal, Cayley and Fermat contests. More than 170 GNS students participated!

Each year, these contests provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their mathematical abilities by solving challenging problems spanning a wide variety of topics. Awards are given to those students with the highest score in each contest. The contest results are available to the students after all the results have been tabulated and winners’ names have been made public.

More contests are coming up this Spring as the Grade 7 and 8 students will write the Gauss contest, again from the University of Waterloo, and the Grade 6s will write the Pythagoras.
