Our amazing season of multiple points on the board, free-throws, rebounds, pin-point-passing and great teamwork ended just this week with a fabulous round robin tournament with all boys on the roster representing GNS in our very own Gudewill Gym.

We’ve had an awesome season and set a very high standard, finishing our jamborees as the only unbeaten team in the city at this level. This is a fabulous achievement, knowing that there were nearly thirty boys on the roster, all eagerly competing for court time.

Likewise, we had to fight hard and play to our best – in the last three games we played (in the depths of North Saanich) we were trailing at the half in all of them, but still managed to finish as winners. What is all the more impressive is that our squad is almost all Grade 6 students, and each and every team we have faced have been much bigger and made up mostly of just Grade 7s.

These boys have set a very high standard, have come to every game and practice with energy and focus, and a sense of inclusivity and fun. Results aside, seeing our sense of gamesmanship, fair play, and desire to come together has a team has been just outstanding. Thank you boys, and thank you to our wonderful band of supporters who have helped to focus on these admirable Gryphon values.

When watching the recent successes of our Senior Boys’ Basketball Team as winners of the ISAs, it was awesome to note how many of this team played on this very Grade 6/7 Recreational Team when they were in the Middle School. This sets up a great pathway for our current roster, and is a powerful reminder of the power of a seamless journey for our students, either in the classroom, on the stage, in the band, or here as part of a sporting team.

Leo Huang in Grade 10 has been a wise and skillful coach along the way, and we are all very grateful to him for his commitments. Likewise, a special thanks to guest coach Gabe Zack for helping this weeks tournament be such a success. And of course, both Gabe and Leo represented GNS in this level of recreational competition, when they were in the Middle School.

Great work Gryphons!
