Congratulations to Jessica Heir ’26, who recently qualified for the provincials and the Western Canadian championships in swimming following an excellent weekend at the 19th Annual PCS Xmas Cracker Invitational Meet where she achieved some of her personal best times.

Jessica won the 200, 400 and 800 Freestyle in the 12–13 Girls category, while taking almost 11 seconds off her 800 Freestyle seed time. She also came a close second in the 400 Individual Medley—taking 12 seconds off her seed time.

“It was a pretty good event,” she said. “My best events are 400 free and 800 free, which is distance, so I came first in both, which is nice.”

This is the fifth year that Jessica has been competitively swimming and the fourth year with her current club Pacific Coast Swimming.

“I just love the atmosphere with swimming, and it’s really fun to be with all of my friends, and I really like all of my coaches,” she said.

In March, Jessica will attend the Winter Provincial Championships, and in April she will get to compete at the Speedo Western Championships in Edmonton.

“It’s pretty fun to be able to go to these events,” she said. “To prepare, we usually just taper, which is going a bit easier in practice and doing some pace work to get prepared. It’s just training a bit easier.”

Jessica is now working towards qualifying for the Junior Nationals that are hosted in Montreal in July. Way to go Jessica and good luck!
