In collaboration with Gryphon Government and the Environment Club, Round Square has sprung into action, putting together many initiatives with many more planned.

On April 20, there was a thrifted fashion show that was the result of the efforts of many people: stylists, hard-working organizers, and brave student and staff models. The focus on second-hand clothing was in celebration of Earth Month and the environmental impact of fast fashion and the clothing industry.  The items worn will be available in a silent auction (details to follow), with proceeds going to the Ancient Forest Alliance, a society dedicated to protecting BC’s endangered old-growth forests.

The Ancient Forest Alliance is one of the main organizations that Round Square is supporting this term. This organization focuses on educating the public about old-growth forests, as well as areas impacted by old-growth logging. In addition to organizing public forums, campaigns, and hikes, the Ancient Forest Alliance also supports BC’s diverse First Nations communities to develop land use plans that will sustain First Nations cultures and ancient forests.

Last week, there was an Egg Hunt done in collaboration with the Gryphon Government. This event was not-for-profit and free to whomever wanted to participate, resulting in a large turnout, with many prizes and chocolates uncovered.

There is also a chance for everyone to participate in a bottle drive! It is on Saturday, April 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Maddison Street Parking Lot.

For anyone who wants to help remove invasive species (or get some volunteer hours), here is your chance! We have needed to move the date from April 27 to May 11 there will be an initiative dedicated to removing invasive species, so keep your ears open for more information.

And returning is the all-popular Freezie Fridays! Starting next Friday, Round Square will be selling jumbo freezies for $2 outside the Dining Hall every week. All proceeds gathered from the sales of these frozen treats will go to Red Cross Ukraine, so remember to bring a couple of toonies!
