Round Square Celebrates a Successful Year

Despite being unable to gather to socialize, a dedicated group of individuals have been able to meet and work together each week without ever realizing what they look like under their masks. GNS Senior School Round Square was able to host over six different initiatives throughout the Fall, Winter and Spring terms. Even though COVID-19 provided an additional challenge in planning and hosting activities that followed local health guidelines, Round Square still had a successful year. Round Square’s last major initiative, the May 29 Bottle Drive, was a huge success! There was a great turnout, with over 25 volunteers showing up and contributing their time, and many families bringing in their collection of bottles. Thank you to all the volunteers, families and friends who brought their haul of recyclables, your contributions were greatly appreciated. An impressive $1,000 was collected! The funds will go to the Mountain Road Forest Project, bringing the count up by $1,000! Visit HAT Mountain Road Forest Campaign Website for more information on the fundraising progress. A great thank you to all volunteers; come get your FREE Freezie on Friday! Freezie sales will continue for one more week. A new batch of Freezies have just come in, so they should be freshly frozen. These delicious ice treats are still a dollar each, so remember to bring your loonies and toonies. Sales will be at the round benches outside of the turf and Simpson building. They will be sold contact-free following COVID-19 protocols. Proceeds will also go towards the Mountain Road Forest Project, further increasing the value of GNS’ donations toward this environmental initiative. Next week is forecasted to be warm and sunny so a Freezie will be extra refreshing! A big thank you to Ms. McKerlich for helping Round Square maintain its successful momentum through this unique and challenging COVID-19 year. We would also like to take a moment to thank and congratulate our graduating Grade 12 Round Square members: Prefect Tara Golonka ’21 and Long-Standing Member Stephanie Borissov ’21 for their leadership, guidance and support! Welcome, Mira Sobkin ’22, our Prefect for the next school year! If you have suggestions for charities that you would like GNS Senior School Round Square to support, contact Ms. McKerlich at smckerlich@mygns.ca as we plan and look forward to another successful year. As a final sign off for the year, to all graduating students, congratulations and best of luck in your future endeavours! You did it!
