May has been an extremely busy month for students and staff alike! Because of this,  Round Square has had to postpone some of their fundraisers, and the Bottle Drive, organized by the Grade 9s, has been postponed to Saturday, May 29, with the location changed to the Madison Street Parking Lot to increase efficiency and accessibility. The drive will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Fortunately, this delay will allow families to collect more bottles and refundables, and proceeds from the bottle drive will go towards the Mountain Road Project. The project is 20 per cent (or $500,000) from its goal, raising money to save 49 hectares of a biodiverse and ecologically rich ecosystem.

This is also an opportunity to collect service hours, please contact Ms. McKerlich at smckerlich@mygns.ca to earn credit for two to three hours of service.

The first Freezie Sale has also been pushed back to Thursday, May 20, before the long weekend. Proceeds earned from Freezie sales will be donated to the Mountain Road Project as well. Freezie stands will be outside the Dining Hall and are contact free with COVID-19 safety in mind. Come by with a few loonies and toonies and pick up your Freezie!

At Gonzales Beach, Grade 10s hosted a beach cleanup on May 12. To the Grade 10s who participated, there is credit for service hours. When filling out the Service Activity worksheet in Managebac, list Ms. McKerlich as the service supervisor.

To those that are preparing for, or completed, their exams, we wish you the best of luck and congratulations! To celebrate, remember to save those empty bottles, cans and juice boxes for the Bottle Drive on May 29, and enjoy an ice cold Freezie on May 20!
