Spotlight on Tallulah Tam ’23 – Service Prefect

This school year, Tallulah served as the Senior School Service Prefect. She has been the Service Cheerleader, organizer, and promoter in our school community. Throughout her time at GNS, Tallulah has been involved in many service initiatives such as French tutoring, volunteering at the hospital, playing piano and violin at a retirement home, and being part of the recent Costa Rica Service Expedition in December 2022. As Service Prefect she has championed service to her fellow Gryphons, by leading Service Assemblies, promoting and adding to the Service Opportunities Spreadsheet, promoting Round Square Activities, and leading by example on how to be a good citizen.

When asked about what Service and Community Engagement mean to her, Tallulah said, “Meaningful community service plays a fulfilling role in my life both inside and outside of school. I really value the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of others. It is especially rewarding to see how volunteering can put a smile on others’ faces.”

GNS Students approach 7 Learning Outcomes through Service as Action

This month we shine the Spotlight on the Learning Outcome – Awareness of Strengths and Areas of Growth.

When students approach this Learning Outcome, students become more aware of how they can link their interests and passions with service activities that make a difference in their community. They also might become more aware of skills they would like to develop, and aspects of themselves they want to work on. Some questions they might consider before, during, and after their service activity might be: What knowledge, skills, and interests do I have that I can use to engage with and help people? What knowledge, skills, and interests could I develop in order to more meaningfully help others?

3 notable ways GNS Students have been participating in service this term:

  • STEP-UP Youth Program with Island Health
  • Beach Clean-ups and Invasive species removal
  • Clothing and Food Drives
