On April 9, 2019, the Senior Concert Band travelled to Port Alberni to take part in the Vancouver Island Concert Band Festival hosted by Alberni District Secondary School. The band performed three pieces—Emblem of Unity, Australian Up-Country Tune, and Blue Lake and Rocky Shore—for their adjudicators, Bryan Stovell and Dr. Steven Capaldo. Following their performance, the band had a short clinic with Dr. Capaldo where he went over their playing and gave them some great tips on how to improve aspects of each piece. At the end of the clinic, the band was very excited to hear that they had been awarded a Superior+ rating. Thirty-eight members of the band are now participating in a band tour that will take them to the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity where they will perform in the Canadian Rocky Mountain Festival.
