By Nancy Fletcher Grade 4 students had the wonderful opportunity to have their wildlife paintings featured in the Roost Gallery at the Robert Bateman Centre earlier this month. The students’ research on local marine wildlife accompanied their paintings in a beautiful display. The gallery exhibit was the result of a months-long collaborative inquiry project, and presented another amazing opportunity for the students to showcase their work and raise awareness of the diverse species around our school and community. Through their research and artwork, the students encourage people to appreciate the beauty of nature and to protect our local wildlife. The exhibit coincided with World Ocean Day and the students were also invited to take part in a sketching workshop along the inner-harbour as part of the Bateman Centre’s “NatureSketch’ initiative. The young artists were thrilled to have their work displayed in such an important venue, and delighted in exploring the gallery and sharing the experience with their parents, teachers and guests at an opening celebration.
