Every summer for over 35 years, Glenlyon Norfolk School has welcomed over 200 Grade 9 or 10 male students from our brother school in Tokyo,
Setagaya Gakuen School (SGS), to Victoria, on a cultural exchange that focuses on learning English, embracing Canadian culture and enhancing the bond between our schools. It is one of the longest-running summer language programs in Canada!
A valuable feature of this program is our homestay experience. We look for local families to provide accommodation, breakfast and dinner, transportation to/from the school, and daily home and living experiences of Canadian families.
The students are in classes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day while in Victoria. During the hosting period, when the boys are not at school, we ask that families spend time with boys, immersing them in the day-to-day life of a Canadian family. This could include trips to local beaches, tours of downtown, or a swim at the local recreation centre (your homestay information package will include a more comprehensive package of activities to consider).
The summer homestay program schedule this year runs on the following dates:
- July 19 (Wed) – July 25 (Tue) (6 nights - depart morning of July 25)
- July 25 (Tue) – July 31 (Mon) (6 nights - depart morning of July 31)
- July 31 (Mon) – August 6 (Sun) (6 nights - depart morning of August 6)
On the first day of each program, we ask that you come to GNS for a brief orientation at 3 p.m. Homestay introductions follow at 3:30 p.m. On the last day of homestay, please drop off students at the GNS PW Campus by 8 a.m.
