Apply for Grades 6 to 8

3 gns students sitting on bench reading books

Our Middle School provides students with a safe environment to embrace new experiences where they are supported by their teachers and peers.

The IB Middle Years Programme provides the framework for the delivery of the BC curriculum in our Middle School. This rich academic program is designed to shape our students into reflective, critical thinkers as well as confident, capable global citizens who are well-prepared to move on with confidence to the Senior School.

What is the Application Process?

Applications are accepted in August one year prior to the intended year of entry at GNS and reviewed beginning in October. There is no application deadline—we will continue to accept and review applications throughout the school year as space is available. Note that the main intake year for our Middle School is Grade 6 with limited spaces available in Grade 7 and Grade 8.

After completing the form below you will create your myGNS Admissions Portal login and then you will be able to access the application form. Once the form has been submitted, you will be assigned an application checklist to upload supporting documents (including a current applicant and family photo, proof of age/citizenship, and immunization records).

Included with your application form is a non-refundable application fee of $250 CDN, payable by credit card.

Families are encouraged to explore our campuses via in-person visits or through virtual tour experiences. In addition, as part of the admissions process, families may be invited to meet with the school’s principal and/or members of the Admissions Team to gain a better understanding of your expectations and to share with you the opportunities available at GNS. You are also welcome to request a Family Meeting at any time during the application process.

Once the application form and all required documents have been submitted, applicants may be invited to complete an online Academic Assessment, which may include:

  • An assessment of literacy and numeracy skills
  • An interview
  • An English-language assessment (if required)

As part of the admissions process, applicants may be invited to attend a Shadow Day to gain a better understanding of our school’s schedule, expectations and opportunities. You are also welcome to request a Shadow Day for your child.

Our efforts are directed toward creating balanced classes with a range of personalities, learning styles and abilities.

The Admissions Committee, which is comprised of members of the Academic and Admissions teams, will review the whole application and send a decision to the family typically two weeks after the assessment date:

  • Offer of Admission: the applicant is offered a place at GNS.
  • Wait Pool: the applicant is placed in the wait pool for the grade and will be notified if space becomes available.
  • Not Offered: the applicant is not suited to the school’s program or space is unavailable.

Congratulations! If you have received an offer of admission to GNS, you will need to complete the assigned Tuition and Enrolment Agreement form by the deadline indicated in your offer letter.

Included with this form is a non-refundable registration fee of $2500 CDN for domestic day students and $5500 CDN for international day students.

If you would like to discuss your offer, please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions office.

Thank you for your interest in GNS.

Do your best through truth and courage

Glenlyon Norfolk School is the only co-ed independent JK to Grade 12 International Baccalaureate World Continuum school in Victoria, BC. There isn’t a single mould for a GNS student or a predetermined portrait of a graduate. We provide a child-centred learning experience that will help your child learn who they are and support them to be their best.

We help students discover who they are, not just what they want to be. When your child leaves GNS, they will have learned how to be curious, engaged and balanced learners who are ready to take positive risks, make mistakes and follow their own path. They will leave knowing they will forever be supported by the GNS community. They will leave knowing they can make a difference.
