Become a GNS Scholar

The GNS Community Scholar Program recognizes exceptional, well-rounded leaders entering Grades 6 to 11. This merit-based entrance scholarship provides awards of $5,000 to $15,000 (renewable annually until graduation) to students who demonstrate academic excellence and a passion for community service.

In line with the expectations of being an IB student, candidates should demonstrate:

• A dedication to volunteering, service, and making a difference in the wider community.
• A strong academic record, backed by report cards that reflect exemplary behaviour and effort across all areas of school life.
• A proven track record of positive, impactful and sustained leadership in their school and community and strong commitment to continue into the future.

Step 1: Complete an Application for Admission to Grades 6 to 11 by November 15 –

Indicate “Community Scholar” on your application form.

Provide the required documents, including:

• A creative 90-second video pitching why you would make a great GNS Community Scholar.
• Two confidential letters of reference: one from an academic source (e.g., a current teacher or school administrator) and one from a community source (e.g., a coach, instructor or leader).

Step 2: Complete Admissions Assessment – Once the admissions assessment is successfully completed, your application will be reviewed by the GNS Community Scholars Committee.

These scholarships recognize strong academic students who have demonstrated exemplary leadership skills in volunteering, community engagement and service to others. To be eligible, you must:

• Be currently attending a school in BC and—as well as one parent—have Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residency.
• Be a new applicant to GNS.
• Be entering Grades 6 to 11.

The deadline to complete your application is November 15. Eligible candidates will be reviewed by the GNS Community Scholars Committee in December. Scholarship decisions will be communicated by early January.

The GNS Arts Scholar Program recognizes exceptional, well-rounded artists entering Grades 9 to 11. This merit-based entrance scholarship provides awards of $5,000 to $15,000 (renewable annually until graduation) to students who demonstrate a passion for art and for community service.

In line with the expectations of being an IB student, candidates should demonstrate:

• A passion for and experience in their chosen art form(s).
• An aptitude for one of the offered Arts Programs at GNS (Band, Choir, Theatre, Visual Art).
• A proven track record of how they serve their community through their chosen art form through acts of service or community engagement.

Step 1: Complete an Application for Admission to Grades 9 to 11 by November 15 –

Indicate “Arts Scholar” on your application form.

Provide the required documents, including:

• An Artist’s Statement that describes who you are, what you care about and why you want to come to GNS. Students are invited to share their artistic passions and interests through a variety of modalities and forms (e.g., a film or video, a portfolio or a clip reel).
• A Confidential Letter of Recommendation from a teacher, program coordinator or instructor who can speak to your interest and experience in the arts.

Step 2: Complete Admissions Assessment – Once the admissions assessment is successfully completed, eligible candidates will move forward to the scholarship audition.

Step 3: Complete the scholarship audition in January –

1. Attend an in-person performative or portfolio-based audition.
2. Attend an interview with a member of the GNS Scholars Committee.

These scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated a passion for the arts and for community engagement. To be eligible, you must:

• Be currently attending a school in BC and -as well as one parent- have Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residency.
• Be a new applicant to GNS.
• Be entering Grades 9 to 11.

The Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (TIE) Scholars Award is a renewable scholarship of $5,000 to $15,000 for new students entering Grade 9. The award will recognize outstanding passion for and potential in the area of TIE. Interest must be demonstrated in one of these areas:

• Design
• Robotics
• Film, animation, media arts
• Computer Programming
• 3D Design

Step 1: Complete an Application for Admission to Grade 9 by November 15 –

Indicate “TIE Scholar” on your application form.

Provide the required documents, including:

• A one-page written statement outlining your interest in TIE, and specifically one or more of the following areas: Design, Robotics, Film, animation, media arts, Computer Programming and 3D Design.
• A Confidential Letter of Reference from a teacher, program coordinator or instructor who can speak to your interest and experience in Technology, Innovation and/or Entrepreneurship.

Step 2: Complete Admissions Assessment – Once the admissions assessment is successfully completed, eligible candidates will move forward to the scholarship audition.

Step 3: Complete the scholarship audition in January –

1. Attend an in-person performative or portfolio-based audition to demonstrate your skill in your interest areas.
2. Attend an interview with a member of the GNS Scholars Committee.

These scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated passion for and potential in the area of TIE. To be eligible, you must:

• Be currently attending a school in BC and—as well as one parent—have Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residency.
• Be a new applicant to GNS.
• Be entering Grade 9.

The deadline to complete your application is November 15. Eligible candidates will be invited to attend a scholarship audition which will take place in January. Scholarship decisions will be communicated by early February.

The Momentum Scholar Program recognizes exceptional, well-rounded new Gryphon Boarding students entering Grades 8 to 11. This merit-based entrance scholarship provides up to $20,000 (renewable annually until graduation) to students who have demonstrated exemplary leadership skills in arts, athletics, clubs or community service.

In line with the expectations of being an IB student, candidates should demonstrate:

• A proven track record of positive, impactful and sustained leadership at their school and in the larger community in arts, athletics, clubs, or community service with a notable commitment to continue into the future. The most competitive candidates often exhibit past and current leadership experience and dedication to all areas.
• A strong academic record, backed by report cards that reflect exemplary behaviour and effort across all areas of school life.
• Scholarships are automatically renewed annually until graduation, provided that the recipient continues to meet or exceed our expectations of contributions to the GNS community.

Step 1: Complete an Application for Admission to Grades 8 to 11 by March 1 –

Indicate “Momentum Scholar” on your application form.

Provide the required documents, including:

• A creative 90-second video pitching why you would make a great GNS Momentum Scholar.
• Two confidential letters of reference: one from an academic source (e.g., a current teacher or school administrator) and one from a community source (e.g., a coach, instructor or leader).

The letters and the video should highlight your positive leadership contributions through volunteering, community engagement and service to others.

Step 2: Complete Admissions Assessment – Once the admissions assessment is successfully completed, your application will be reviewed by the GNS Scholars Committee.

These scholarships recognize strong academic students who have demonstrated exemplary leadership skills in arts, athletics, clubs or community service. To be eligible, you must:

• Be entering the GNS Gryphon Boarding dormitory program.
• Be a new applicant to GNS.
• Be entering Grades 8 to 11.
• Be from any country.

The deadline to complete your application is March 1. Eligible candidates will be reviewed by the GNS Community Scholars Committee. Scholarship decisions will be communicated by March 15.
