Apply for Early Childhood

We are thrilled that your family is considering our preschool programs to start your child's educational journey at GNS!

Glenlyon Norfolk School is pleased to be offering two preschool programs at our Beach Drive Campus: our First Steps half-day program for three-year-olds and our full-day Junior Kindergarten for four-year-olds. When applying, children must be three by December 31 of their starting year for First Steps and four by December 31 of their starting year for Junior Kindergarten.

All students in First Steps and Junior Kindergarten learn within the framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.

Our Early Childhood programs are the main intake years at our Junior School. Limited spaces are added for new students to join in Kindergarten, Grade 3 and Grade 4. For the grades in between, spaces may become available if there is a change in enrolment.

What is the Application Process?

Applications are accepted in August one year prior to the intended year of entry at GNS, and reviewed beginning in October. If you are applying after October 15 for First Steps or Junior Kindergarten, please contact the Admissions Office before proceeding.

After completing the form below, you will create your myGNS portal login and then you will be able to access the application form. Once the form has been submitted, you will be assigned an application checklist to upload supporting documents (including a current applicant and family photo, proof of age/citizenship, and immunization records).

Included with your application form is a non-refundable application fee of $250 CDN, payable by credit card.

Families are encouraged to explore our campuses via in-person visits or through virtual tour experiences. In addition, as part of the admissions process, families may be invited to meet with the school’s principal and/or members of the Admissions Team to gain a better understanding of your expectations and to share with you the opportunities available at GNS. You are also welcome to request a Family Meeting at any time during the application process.

Once the application form and all required documents have been submitted, applicants may be invited to complete a group play-based Readiness Assessment with our teachers. The aim of the assessment is to gain a better understanding of your child’s social and emotional development.

Our efforts are directed toward creating a balanced class with a range of personalities, learning styles and abilities.

The Admissions Committee, which is comprised of members of the Academic and Admissions teams, will review the whole application and send a decision to the family typically within two weeks after the assessment date:

  • Offer of Admission: the applicant is offered a place at GNS.
  • Wait Pool: the applicant is placed in the wait pool for the grade and will be notified if space becomes available.
  • Not Offered: the applicant is not suited to the school’s program or space is unavailable.

Congratulations! If you have received an offer of admission to GNS, you will need to complete the assigned Tuition and Enrolment Agreement form by the deadline indicated in your offer letter.

Included with this form is a non-refundable registration fee of $3000 CDN.

If you would like to discuss your offer, please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions office.

Thank you for your interest in GNS.

Do your best through truth and courage

Glenlyon Norfolk School is the only co-ed independent JK to Grade 12 International Baccalaureate World Continuum school in Victoria, BC. There isn’t a single mould for a GNS student or a predetermined portrait of a graduate. We provide a child-centred learning experience that will help your child learn who they are and support them to be their best.

We help students discover who they are, not just what they want to be. When your child leaves GNS, they will have learned how to be curious, engaged and balanced learners who are ready to take positive risks, make mistakes and follow their own path. They will leave knowing they will forever be supported by the GNS community. They will leave knowing they can make a difference.
