Here are a few updates about what to expect around the Pemberton Woods Campus and other neighbourhood-related activities:

Gonzales Neighbourhood Association

The Gonzales Neighbourhood Association is holding their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, November 8 at 7 p.m. in the Dining Hall on our Pemberton Woods Campus. Please visit their website (https://www.gonzalesna.ca/) for more information about the meeting.

Service & Community Engagement

GNS challenges our students to use their skills and awareness of public issues to help their communities and consider how they can make a difference. In a recent example of this in our neighbourhood, a student in Social Justice 12 researched current issues and chose to implement an action project for a Gonzales Beach clean-up. He organized his classmates for this project in late October, which was aimed to not only clean-up the beach but also to raise awareness about the problem of plastics in our oceans and on our beaches.

If you have any suggestions about other service opportunities for our students to volunteer in the community, or if you would like to be involved in future student-led service activities in our neighborhood, please email neighbours@mygns.ca.

GNS Presents: The Farnsworth Invention

Glenlyon Norfolk School presents The Farnsworth Invention, a stage play by Aaron Sorkin adapted from an unproduced screenplay about Philo Farnsworth’s first fully functional and completely all-electronic television system and David Sarnoff, the RCA president who stole the design. Performances will run on November 23, 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. and on November 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors. Please email communications@mygns.ca for information on how to obtain tickets.

Traffic

We are encouraged to see more families using the newly implemented drop and walk zones that the City of Victoria put in place last month on Richardson and Gonzales. We continue to communicate and promote the use of these zones to our students and parents as a way of reducing traffic congestion during our drop-off and pick-up times. If you have questions or observations please share them with neighbours@mygns.ca or directly with the City of Victoria.

We have also seen a positive increase in our bus ridership to and from school as we continue to encourage our families to look to alternate modes of transportation for getting to and from school.

Email Distribution List

As part of our commitment to improving communications with our neighbours, we encourage you to register for our neighbour email distribution list which we will use to send out these monthly updates. If you would like to be added to our email list, please email neighbours@mygns.ca.
